How I started at Waters… My dad worked for a Northumbrian Water and heard that Petch Waters (as it was at the time) needed some office staff, the rest is history.
My role at Waters… Office admin, sub-contractor reconciliation, hire, transport, invoicing, accounts queries & chief tea lady!
How my role has changed over the years… I started doing bank reconciliation, credit control, finance as well as my current roles. Due to expansion of work, role is more specific invoicing, hire control etc. More automation with transport system and invoicing. Much busier with work and changes to legislation etc.
A typical day for me is… No such thing. Certain jobs have to be done weekly/monthly but different queries and problems arise daily.
What I enjoy most about my job is… Talking to customers – this is a big part of my job so I would struggle if I didn’t enjoy it. I like re-evaluating processes within the office, as the business moves on and grows, we need to look at our systems in order to keep up to date and continue to increase efficiency. Also my lovely colleague and the daily banter we have in the office makes the days fly by.
The advice I would give to my younger self… Don’t leave college with three month left to go
I was inspired by… Moira Stewart
Three words to describe Waters…Progressive – Customer Focused
How my managers have supported me in my career… They allow me to do my job without constant appraisal and have the freedom to organise my working week to suit.
